While I have used my friends arc and mig welders to fix stuff, I never took the time to learn what they really are and what they are designed for.
Now I live in the Dominican Republic and have to build various things of tube and angle steel, and possibly stainless.
We have 220V-3 phase available (as well as 110V-60 hz) and there are various hardware places with welders available.
I can only buy one welder and was hoping to get some basic advice as for what type and size - to be used for the following materials:
Mild steel angle and tubes, in 1/8th - 1/4 inch, but rarely thicker (making shop tables, work benches, ladders etc).
Stainless 1/16th-1/4 (for putting water pipe fittings onto wash tanks, as well as food preparation tables).
Someone told me a mig with argon gas is all I need.
Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Many many thanks,
Jim
