which way to go ???

hiya lads, can anyone help ? got to extend my gates using 1" inch by 3/8 flat bar and am wondering which is the best way to go about it , will it be ok to use 0.6 welding wire or 0.8 on gas or is it better to use these sizes on flux core ? im using a clarke 100 en so can use either , ive only used it for car panels up to now . any info appreciated gaz

3/8" is way more than the 100EN is designed to handle. I'd go with flux wire to have any chance of a weld with enough fusion/penetration.

As Shenion mentions, you are a bit above your limit really but it's only a gate so you could manage it.

Where new meets old give it a decent V prep and get a couple of runs in at full power, then do a scientific test to make sure it won't fall off... big hammer.
