Hi! I've never welded before, but have been building cars for 10 years (mostly assembling, dissasembling engines and hard parts).
I'm looking to get my first welder.
It will have primarily one use - auto performance parts fabrication. Mostly exhaust piping, intercooler piping/endtanks, turbo manifolds, etc.
I hear that I'd have to go TIG for aluminum (?), and as far as I know TIGs are super expensive.
I know I can weld mild steel with MIG, but what about stainless? My price range is $500-$1000 USD.
I can deal with making mild steel manifolds/pipes and having them coated (to prevent rust/retain heat) to make up for what it lacks vs. SS.
Can someone recommend a welder to me for welding 1/16" to 1/8" thick metal/pipe? I believe I only have outlets in my garage that are the standard NEMA 5-15 (15A/125V) socket.
Thanks!
