Hello all
Ive just finished designing a 7'x5' camping trailer which i will be building from scratch. It will be mild steel box section (75x50) at 3mm thick and the box will be 2mm aluminium plate 600mm high. Ive done a bit of welding before so my skills are acceptable and hopefully i wont need too much practice, but this is really the only welding project i have in the pipeline. Im in Australia where (give or take) the bottle monopoly belongs to BOC and the rental prices are comparable to the UK.
So my question is what are peoples opinion/best guess at how much gas I will need? As I am going to need to weld Aluminum, is it financially sensible to get all argon and use it for both steel and alu or is that vastly more expensive than the co2/Ar mix? Is it worth doing the steel work with a mates pub mix (he owns a pub) and finishing off the aluminium with a few disposable bottles or Argon? thanks Jon
