which paint on possibly fresh zinc?

New from china 4 pot calipers, i'd like to put a coat of paint on them to preserve them a tad longer, i have some Lechler epoxy here, will that do ?

Are you sure its zinc ? A lot of these brake items are coated with a water based product. I don't actually know what it is.

dab some mordant solution on them and see what happens.

I have used GT caliper paint in aerosol on mine, and it seems to be OK after a couple of years.

The lechler epoxy states that its good for fresh zinc, with the standard caveat about abrading etc.

I use it on aluminium all the time. I have a galvanised chassis here thats been siting about for some time - i suspect ill do a light mordant wash, and then epoxy it. I dont hugely like the idea of mordant as its, basically, removing the zinc, but i guess if you dont go overboard with it, it will be fine.

I don't have any Mordant wash, petrol, diesel, celly thinners, 2k thinners, some white spirits and meths

Edit, I think i'll chance the epoxy as at least it'll take the heat

I didn't think that epoxies in general were particularly heat resistant?

Hi,

With epoxy being good for chassis parts and engine blocks etc, is it any good for brake calipers and the heat they may get up too etc ?

Also does epoxy have the ability to flex at all, i have a few bits that need flexing to fit back together again ?

If it is any good for calipers would they need to be epoxy primed like usual ?

What makes epoxy so good at what it does, does it have an acid like what etch primer does ?

Also anyone know a good place to buy epoxy paint from ?

Ive seen a website that has a number of different types of anti rust epoxy primer...
