which mig for welding 2 - 8mm steel sheets

Hi. I have stick welded for years but am new to MIG. I need to weld some 5 mm sheets of steel, seam welding three 6ft x 3ft sheets together, and then welding 2.5mm box section to it. I feel stick welding may distort the metal, and so am considering MIG.

What mig would people reccommend, and what would people avoid. So far i have learned that i should be looking for about 200 amps, and i would prefer single phase. I am also looking for welders that will take 15 kg rolls of 1.0 mm wire.

You would need a 250amp+ machine to run 1.0mm wire & you would be risking burn through on the box section.

Ok, i was hoping you would answer .Whereabouts in the northwest are you, as i am from southport. I was looking at a 200 amp cemont (i think that was the make) which i was told would take the 1mm wire???

what would you reccommend for welding the above. Basically i am making a container, box section frame, then lined with 5mm seam welded steel plate.

Nah... A 200amp MIG will run 1.0mm wire but you would be screwing it! Better off with something in reserve, or using 0.8mm wire. 0.8mm wire would be preffered on the thinner walled box section but 1.0mm on the 5mm plate. Cemont (depending on the model) are slightly better than your average SIP/Sealey machines but by no means a professional quality set. (Draper re-badge them under their name).
