I'm learning tig and getting on reasonable well on stainless with pure argon, what gas do I use on a steel shipping container non structural repair , I would sooner use mig but cant move my mig , but my tig is portable 150ac/dc messers ewm
Pure argon is fine, its really the only gas you need for tig on any material, there are mixes containing helium available but are very expensive and usually only used on special applications in industry
Just argon or in some cases argon/helium to be used with Tig mate. Just pure argon will do for your job but why not just use mma while it's a shipping container?
Helium mix gives you a hotter arc which suits thicker section Alu very well as you need less current to get things going. As said pure argon is the common gas that covers all materials perfectly fine. I only use argon for my personal Tig which on my unit covers everything I need to.
