Following a post from hit-em about his grandpappy's new hot love, the flap disc, I thought it might be good for us to bung in some recommendations of our own for discs for various uses.

Me, I prefer fibre discs with a backing pad in the old angle grinder for gentle work, cos they're cheaper then flap discs.

Oh yeah, and Dronco grinding discs are crap, cos they wear out quick and they stink of S**t! And my missus always says I smell (more than usual) after I've been using them!

You may not like the Dronco grinding discs but have you tried these fellas...


POLISHING Flap Discs. Not cheap at almost a fiver each but they are superb for polishing Aluminium, Stainless, Brass, Copper etc.etc.

What are the grades old boy, and I'll ask again, you got consumables for a cb70 plasma torch?

They are made from some fancy resin-bonded nylon material & are just graded Fine (blue), Medium (red/purple/scarlet whatever!) & Coarse (brown).
Certainly got spares off the shelf for the CB50 but not sure about the CB70, what is it you need, tips & electrodes?

Yeah, tips, elecs, swirls etc. I'm ok at the mo but often need all sorts of bits and pieces. It's always good to know I can avoid BOC tradequip. We've had two other welding suppliers go out of business/ got bought out and changed direction recently, and the only good welding suppler in the central belt, who delivers regularly, really makes you pay for the privilege. Can you pm me your contact details?

Still don't like flap discs tho. I can get a box of 20 fibre discs for a fiver, and they work a treat. Cant beat grinding discs for cleaning off mill scale and ripping off stock tho.

I just use what ever I can get in the local ag store or off screwfix if I have an order to place. Just simple bog standard cutting & grinding disks. But then I dont do fancy stuff. As long as it can get the rust / sh1t (& I mean real sh1t) off it will do me.

Don't use Clarke discs, I've had chunks fly off them!

A bit on the expensive side but its Norton Zerconium Flap disc's for me ! seem to last a good while.

Every type of disc has it own purpose...i use loads of different sorts, heres my favs for the main ones...


Cutting - Rhodius FT
Grinding - 3M Greencorps or Klingspor
Flapper pads - Garryson
Surface conditioning - 3M Scotchbrite
