which dc tig??

im wanting to buy a decent dc tig setup.
just want a nice simple unit that works well.
doesnt have to be massive amps
hf or lift start
slope in and out
possiblity of using a foot pedal.
realistically i think i could go to £1000

what do you suggest?

Im using the R-Tech TIG160PDC, nice machine to use and doesnt have too many knobs and buttons.

HF start too.

Rtech are good value for money,but Lorch,miller,IFL,and many others are within your budget,......I have a soft spot for the,IFL 200phf,myself....Others I'm sure will disagree...

I agree, with a decent budget like that you could get a nice set, see plenty of millers, esabs and IFLs etc on sites, that tells you something

I agree, too - especially the bit about IFL's (but I'm probably a bit biased)

This is my Marshall Dynabolt (same as miller dialarc hf250) which does AC/DC, will run off either 240v or 415v and has output of 10 to 310amp
It cost me a lot less than a grand last year inc pedal.

Yeah, they need to be big. The pedal list price is also more than many inverters.

Mine is the same. It has a 150watt rheostat in it. Need room to dissipate heat (notice cooling vents.)

They are nice machines if you can get them cheap. Needs lots of power. Id like an inverter for variable freq though.

And there is ****** all in it, just a microswitch and a big wire wound resistor.
But it works well though.

Sorry, another R-Tech owner here.

Grand would get you 160 ac dc, pedal and a load of change to buy argon or beer with.

Don't know if AC is something you might want for later on?

R-Tech are popular because they are cheap, simple as. A grand for a DC only machine puts you into a whole different league; don't forget to budget for the gas etc. though cause that can bump up the cost a fair amount

The argon cylinder aint that small its a midi! (half full size bottle)
The machine must weigh close to 1/4 of ton

Depends what you'll use it for too, if it'll get used alot (ie commercial use)and you rely on it to make you a living forget the budget cr4p, get a decent brand, for a grand you'll get a half decent setup

As already mentioned you'll get a professional quality "not made in China" unit for that sort of budget
