Which chopsaw?

I want to get a chopsaw and was looking at one of these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/rage-3-10in-compound-sliding-mitre-saw or http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/rage2-pro-355mm-multi-purpose-cut-off-saw-110.

I'd rather go with the Rage 3 as you move the blade round as opposed to the material, are they any good or should I go for the other type?

Just a personal opinion I went for the 3 and wished I had gone for the two, mainly for blade life if using mostly on steel, I have made my comments on the choice on previous threads so wont repeat myself, others might have a different opinion. in saying that I have used a lot of the hand held one 180mm blade that has been fantastic for blade life in comparison.

The only reason i'd go for the Rage 2 is that the Rage 3 has no clamp to hold the metal in place while its been cut, you would get away without a clamp cutting wood but not steel IMHO.

i have been using a evolution rage 3 chopper all day today chopping 30x30x5mm angle iron and it has been great cant say a bad word about it apart from you would need to use a full face shield as it sends tiny hot chips out some of the time part form that 100% thumbs up!!

I will second Steeos sentiments there, it can have quite a kickback if your not careful.

Thanks for the comments, I'm still drawn toward the Rage 3 as I've been lent a Rage 2 style chopsaw and found it a bit of a pain in the a*** to move the material when cutting angles, but please keep the comments coming as I've not spent any money yet.

ive gone back to an abrasive disc type chopsaw , used to have a rage 2 , its pretty much falling apart now . Thats with pro use tho .
For diy use either of those machines would be ok

I've done a search of the site (should've done that first realy ) and there's a lot of mixed feelings about both types of saw.

As I haven't got a humungus budget I reckon I'll go for the Rage 3 as it'll be for DIY (Destory It Yourself) and if I start to do more work I'll look at getting something better.

the rage 2 and 3 are the same price on there so budget wouldnt come into it unless your on about new blades? if so as eil said the rage 2 blades last longer and at twice the cost does it last twice as long?

i was looking in my MM catalogue last night for a chop saw and was torn between the rage 2/3, is it not possible to use different blades? ie. buy the rage 3 and put a metal only blade of the same size in it to last longer?

as for the problem with the clamp theres a clamp which comes down and clamps on the top of the material, if thats not good enough then make one

Wili they do a dedicated steel blade for the Rage3 now but they are expensive, what I did was to get the blue steel blade for the extreme as I got it a lot cheaper of ebay, the only snag is its a tad smaller so had to make up a packing piece for underneath and behind for it to be able to cut through the work and it lasts longer

the prices for the blades are in mm, for the rage 2 its £50 and rage 3 its only £25 so its not too bad as long as they last for a while, also theres some pics of the rage 3 with 2 clamps, one from the top on the left and one on the side on the right so thats not too bad
