Where to find thick blocks of mild steel - scrap or cheap

I need mild steel ideally 4 to 6 inches thick and at least 5 inches square. Where can I find these? Do old machines have them on them, maybe as ballast? I don't want to pay new price for them. I will be using it to make swage blocks. Thanks.

I used to get odds and ends of steel from a local-ish steel stock holder supplier type bloke, it was a smallish operation and he would have various off cuts and would let me have them very cheaply to clear a bit of space ! it was a bit random what he had at any given time but handy source of material
