Hi Tom,I normally go back to the axle if I can , it only adds a little extra length to the draw bar / a frame , but gives the whole front of the trailer much more strength and you can narrow the a frame included angle if you like again making a tidier job overall , add flat gussets or webs if you like ,,, where do you get the ''tongue '' from are you american ? ,
draw bar / a frame . its all Ive known them as .Hi Tom,
Not American, welsh. Just called it tongue only by what I have read. What is it normally called in the UK?
What you can do to help the situation if putting a weld there, is make sure you fill the ends (no starved horseWhere the red marked welds are will be a high stress point, so I'd guess they don't advise because of weld induced stress risers adding to the existing ones. That said, most are welded there with no issues, providing your material Vs weight margins are wide enough. You can make drop down gussets if you want, but how much are they changing things?
Lol -starved horse puddle...What you can do to help the situation if putting a weld there, is make sure you fill the ends (no starved horse
puddle), and no undercut anywhere along the length of the weld.
