Where to atatch trailer tongue

Reading up on fixing a trailer tongue it states not to weld across the box section but to use. See photo. Gussets.does any body have a photo of how these are attached.

I normally go back to the axle if I can , it only adds a little extra length to the draw bar / a frame , but gives the whole front of the trailer much more strength and you can narrow the a frame included angle if you like again making a tidier job overall , add flat gussets or webs if you like ,,, where do you get the ''tongue '' from are you american ? ,

I'd weld ontop.... maybe they mean not only ontop?

Where the red marked welds are will be a high stress point, so I'd guess they don't advise because of weld induced stress risers adding to the existing ones. That said, most are welded there with no issues, providing your material Vs weight margins are wide enough. You can make drop down gussets if you want, but how much are they changing things?

Last home made trailer I bought had angle iron welded to the A frame, then through bolts to bolt the angle iron uprights to the trailer chassis, welded where the A frame terminated just Infront of the front axle.

Not saying it's the right design but I pulled a range rover 450 miles on it with no issues so can't have been all bad...

puddle), and no undercut anywhere along the length of the weld.

Every welded construction trailer I've ever seen or made has been welded everywhere the a frame touches the chassis, including where the red marked welds are.

You do have to be careful not to warp the chassis or a frame when welding. I have seen home made trailers with well bent chassis rails due to welding.

I always clamp on some heavy wall shs to keep the chassis straight during welding.
