Right so had the second of the redundancy meetings too day and I have been told I will be given the final decision on Thursday.
In the mean time I have been offered a temporary contract with the fisheries protection lot as second engineer for 3 weeks. First trip as second so it should be interesting and a learning curve. Im at 34 months as 3rd/4th engineer so if I kept at that rank im only 2 months short of sea time for chiefs ticket. Now time as second counts for a bit more so I may just squeak through the requirement by the end of this trip or at least have only one more too go.
Im in half a mind too turn round too the office now and accept the voluntary redundancy and just be done with it, though it would mean possibly losing out a bit as my union rep has asked if they would make some concessions on me getting a little extra pay etc. Though not a strong chance there is also the possibility they will turn round at the next meeting as say my job is safe therefore I’d have too resign and pay them back for a course they put me through. You guys have any thoughts as too what to do? Union rep is looking at it too to see what position that puts me in.

If they are not planning to bin everyone, they will look at the easy options of voluntary, the see how many they have left versus how many they need. But just because you volunteer to go, doesnt always mean they want you to go. Butyou been the new boy are cheap to get shot off!
I put my hand up fir the wedge many years ago, and was told, your not going as your in the keep section.
its always a gamble…if in doubt do nowt. All depends what you want/ need. And from what you mentioned on pm its not filling your needs
