A good old bit of lead wiping, used to know an old plumber who never use body filler always leaded dents/joints.
I think he made more money finishing off old Jaguar restorations at the weekends than he did plumbing during the week.

That’s how I work, this is simple as it’s a new location on a flat(ish) wall. Under the floor is a nightmare as it’s double joists and in a corner

I’ve quoted to rip the lot out on top of the combi job I’m doing, only problem is the tiled floor in the bathroom
I don’t touch lead these days, unless it’s whacking a transition coupling on to connect to an old main

.easy enough to wipe solder joints using blowtorch a stick of solder a leather pad and flux I used to have to cut out the top of old hot water tanks and sweat a brass threaded boss in for emersion heaters used to sometimes sweat brass ferrules in to lead water mains for the odd plumber who hadn't a rubber adaptor to connect on. all the old skills lost .

I didn't know you could use lead pipe, when I used to shoot, the folks who cast bullet heads used something called Linotype?

When they built the new BIW (body in white) building at Longbridge in the 70's they included lead loading booths at the end of the tracks, but panel quality and fit was so much better they never actually used the facility.

I watched two workers in a hole in the road, on the way home from school one day, many years ago. One had a huge pot of molten lead and the other a pair of gauntlets. The guy was pouring the lead into the others hands as he wiped it around the pipe. The lead was pasty, not really fully molten. No fun police antics (elf and safety) apart from the gloves there was nothing.

Philmac UTC, great invention. I fixed a burst in the back yard with one, it had been blanked off by crimping the lead pipe and we've been here 35 years didn't even know it was there till we got a spring coming up between the slabs. Must have been an outside bog at some time.

@Robotstar5 Linotype was the printing machines that made newspapers what they are today, " Hot metal printing" (lead amalgam), was sent on a course as an apprentice to learn about the electric bits worked on a Linotype Model 48, you typed & the machine formed the print, the guys who used them were paid a bomb.

The alloy seems to make a lot of difference Many a conversation that went over my head in the clubhouse about cast lead bullets.

Linotype is hard (Brinnell 20+?) and fine for modern firearms but old Cap-n-Ball revolvers and Muskety type stuff needs pure lead (Brinnell 8 or less) so that the whack from the charge squidges the lead outwards into the rifling grooves. Hard lead means lots of blow-by. Zinc, Tin and Antimony contamination affect the finished size, density and surface hardness of the balls coming out of the same mould, so very important to get the right mix of alloy. I get the best from about 2 sq feet of roofing lead and a small handful of hard bullets to add just enough alloying material to be soft yet to lose the surface tension of pure lead that means poor mould fill-out. Fishing weights contain uite a lot of zinc, it seems.
Yesterday I counted my .44 ball collection and I now have over 1000 ready for firing. Fully ready for the impending Zombie Apocalypse or Brexit, whichever comes first.
