When it's D1-3 I guess.
I purchased a crawford Hydraulic Collet chuck and it was supposed to be D1-4. But after purchasing a second hand 8 inch 3 jaw I decided to tidy my workshop and garage and see how accurate they were.
MMMMMMMMMMM that was when my problems started. First I offered the collet chuck up and it was obvious why it would not fit......I am guessing it's D1-3.
So onto the 3 jaw and better luck this time it fits the holes....but does not tighten up. It would appear, and I wait to be corrected but , D1-4 is not an exact standard.
I have got it to fit but I had to adjust the pins to accept the cam when turning. So.it appears you cant just get a D1-4 backplate and expect it to fit another D1-4 lathe with out adjusting it.
