These shows are just mild entertainment, they are fine if you treat as such. Many of us have too much knowledge.
It is clear that some of the builds on scrapheap challenge could not be achieved in 10 hours. As also mentioned they always find the right stuff and every engine they find seems to run.
I saw one episode of classic car rescue where they said the guy was cutting the floor with the oxy-acetylene, he had something like a no 3 welding nozzle on! Next thing there was a fire surprise,surprise and the boss was ranting. When they did the cutting for real they used a plasma cutter.
Once you start analysing this stuff you have to stop watching it.
People are always surprised why there are arguements on Big Brother, fact is they have a team of psychologists picking people who will generate ratings.

I have little interest in cars, other than the fact they serve there function in life, But I don't mind Wheeler dealers, Its entertainment, and a completely factual program would show Mike filling out a self assessment Tax form, Ed Returning the VAT and doing the bank run, spending mindless amounts of time sorting out menial problems and very little time actually doing the job they set out to do, such is the REAL reality's of running any business, It doesn't however make great TV..
Personally Iv been very much enjoying the Brain Doctors on BBC2, Thats been an exceptional Factual documentary. If I had studied for the best part of 20 years to reach the status of a Neurological consultant I may sit there and pick holes in the Factuality of the program, as I haven't the intelligence to do so I can just watch in Orr at some of remarkable pieces of surgery that these guys pull off.

It was me that got Dave involved, I was involved very early on and put Dave forward as an accomplice (if you know Dave you will know what I mean) but they moved the goalposts after a while and I bailed out as I didn't want to look stupid on telly
