Back to the serious stuff. One of my most appreciated sets of tools is a tap and die set I bought a few years ago for 100 euros This one is exactly the same. It has many of the odd threads such as 5 different speeds for M12. It also cuts stainless without any problems with a little loob. As you can see I paid too much

wow! that's a serious kit! I'm afraid I don't speak Dutch or Belgian(???) but they're not HSS I take it? Are they all metric? I could be persuded to invest in a kit like that!

I am not sure where this is made, my guess is Poland/Russia/Czech . It is known that eastern european countries build their products with metric thread, but the bolts and nuts are incompatible with the standard metric stuff found in the Western european markets, due to pitch etc. These sets contain a wide variety of pitches for various sizes. It also has M7, M9 and M11 (in four pitches!) thread sizes. My father who bought a similar set told me that some seatbelt bolts are M11 fine pitch. Handy!!
The larger taps and dies have "Tungsten" printed on them. One of the fitter and turners my father often uses said " it may say tungsten on it but I doubt it has tungsten in it". I don't know how true that is, but they cut stainless with long curls coming out!

Try a Lenox frame, you will never want to use am Eclipse frame again.
Lots of tools I couldn't do without, one that I find is indispensable is a
pair of dental pliers, never found anything else that pulls valve stem seals off as well.
hmm, looks ok, doesn't appear that special. not too expensive. why are they better?
Also, my Grandad's frame has his initials set into it, reminds me of him

Not that one. a 4012. No doubt there are others as good, I bought 100 blades and got the 4012 frame chucked in. I couldn't believe the difference a frame makes, I think the tension you can put the blade under is what does it. I bought a B&Q saw when I needed a saw one day, it looks pretty much like the Lenox but you can't get the blade tension.

Just remembered another - my Norbar Torque Wrench. I bought it at, of all places, Argos, when I was taking the head off of my Hillman Hunter 22 years ago. Had loads of others since then, but nothing beats it in terms of usability and inspiring confidence. Mind you, it's probably way out of calibration by now
i`ve got one of those,brilliant,goes to 220nm,bought it second hand (boxed as new) about 18yrs ago for £8,still used regularly. and i get it calibrated at work free,just put it in with works tools for the day
