Looks like a honing machine to me, for putting fine finishes in cylinder bores.

Hard to tell as its a naff photo, its looks like a cylinder hone but the ones I have seen use a movable vertical hone.

Dont know why but there seems to be a rush of these appearing on ebay at the moment

NO it can be used for small cyl but it is a honing machine but usually used for re sizing con rods ie if you have a damaged big end you can use this machine to resize it, back to standard.

Yeah it says honing machine but I do not know how it's used. It would have made more sense if it was vertical to me.

Ha ha I'm so old I've used them in the distant past.

Mainly Delapena not sure on the spelling.

Used for honing anything hardened

Lubed with oil the stone slides in a groove operated by a foot pedal

One dial put tension on the stone the other determined the final size

Uses in a toolroom for easing dowel holes in dies

The other would be components that had the outer surfaces ground on a universal grinder the bore would be honed to size to fit a mandrel to grind ie collets

I use to use one years ago , stinking oily job .
Looks like a load of different sized arbours on the top .

Whatever I did to deserve getting put on that machine must have been BAD .

They are not particularly good for honing multi cylinders , also because generally cylinders are supposed to be cross honed ie the hone moved up and down the bore regularly as it rotates to create a cross hatch effect, to aide with the cyl/piston ring interphase.

There's no difference in a vertical or horizontal hone. The cylinder is moved back and forth rather than the hone being moved up and down. The effect is the same.

Well there is----- gravity---- I would not like to try and hone a multi cyl block on one! and move it up and down the bore. whilst trying to support it.

OK, I fell into that one. I suppose what I meant to say is that the the finish is the same by virtue of moving either the hone or the lump of metal.
Anything more than a twin cylinder and you'd need to be built like the Hulk
