Bit late to ask really as i have already bought it, but has anyone got any info on this?

my googlefu is weak on this one

make possibly is mig 2000 and model is mig 120

has stitch timer, 20-120 amp and euro torch

instructions, wiring diagram etc would be nice to find

wire feed setting is random atm but guesstimate replacement pot is on the way.

£77 inc some tips, a couple of shrouds and a new 5kg reel of murex .8 wire . the torch is a fairly clean parweld one if it helps.

i am pleased both by the price and that it was 10 minutes up the road

my brother in law who welds for a living said that i could have spent £110 and got a new welder. i dont think he has to pay for his own equipment

certainly seems nicer than my clarke 90 and sip 105 , even if all of them are a bit broken

As it wasn't much more than the cost of a night out these days I reckon you've done OK as long as it works.
Your brother-in-law clearly does not buy his own equipment!

Sure is an old one alright. You might get some clues as to the original mfg co by looking at the pcb and other components inside. Sometimes they printed their co name there. If I had a wild stab in the dark I'd go with CEA. Prob miles out though.

Don't know anything about the make but 20A in bottom gear coupled with stitch function should make for a cracking thin metal machine.

i have replaced the feed speed pot , which had no effect on its erratic wire feed.

i stripped the feed motor and gearbox as far as i dared, gave the commutator a rub down and cleaned between the contact thingies then gave the gearbox a bit of lube.

wire speed still is not right in that it needs 1/3 turn of the dial before the motor starts and everytime i weld it needs resetting.

saying that though it has been pressed into service patching the back half of a sill and wheel arch on my o/h's mondeo.

took half the expected time to weld up this repair due to its superior performance

hopefully i will get to the bottom of it soon - multimeter is at the ready

Pic of the pcb might help with diags. You could clip a meter on the motor connections, back off the wire feed roller, press trigger and see if the voltage varies with some stop-start triggering. If not then it's the motor if it does it's the supply (control) to the motor. Was the 1/3 of a turn problem there before you replaced the pot? If not then you may have used the wrong type of pot ie a lin pot for a log pot or vis veras.

mike - tbh i didn't check before replacing the pot as i have a lot more time to diagnose at a distance.

i cut the wires long and fitted the new pot with bullet connectors. putting the old component back in circuit shows the same symptoms, and a resistance reading across its sweep 'looks' the same as the new one. it is marked 4k7 lin so thats what its replaced with.

measuring the circuit voltages will be my next try, the wiring is a bit awkward to access/trace without a more comprehensive dis-assembly so i have put it off till i am a bit more motivated (ie am avoiding doing something else )
