What's that sealant that is used around doors and windows?

It's not silicone, it is laid as a thick bead on the outside of windows and doors to fill the gap between them and the brickwork?

I've fitted my Hormann Roller shutter and need to seal the gap

Newspaper.

Always used xpanding foam, but sealants have advanced so speak to your builders merchants maybe. I think (personal view) xpanding foam is a tad more rigid and durable and does not shrink? but as I say, sealants have improved, think I would use xpanding foam for a roller shutter-but thats my gut feeling-not from xperience of the job.

Expanding foam is used to help fix the frames when there is a large gap, sealants are still used around the frame to weather proof it

I've used Fosroc Nitoseal-ms60, it is serious stuff that can seal big gaps, but it's not easy to get and pricey.

then u finish of with frame sealant . a flexible sealer hmmm someone beat me to it I never looked

A lot of fitters use brown PU sealant like the Sikafex EBT+ but probably a cheaper trade alternative.

Ah if its only 8mm id either pack it and run a big bead of sealant down it or fit some plastic/wood trim depending on the finish you want.

Burnt sand mastic? Maybe I'm old fashoned but that's what I am using.

It could be silicone, it's just called low modulus

that's minor when u see certain traveling folk cladding peoples houses and the silicone goes cream after 6 month and u see its been put in with there thumb
