WHATS HAPPENING ???

Right guys, I got my 0.6mm mild steel wire and my co2/argon welding gas, I turned the gas on so it hissing and turned my mig welder on ( clarke 130en turbo ) I am just practicing so I sanded my wing down to bare metal and put a nut on top and started to weld, but the problem I'm getting is the weld when touching the metals just ends up turning in to small balls and are just sticking to the metal but the weld is useless I can just hit the nut and it falls off, I have played with setting for example 1-max,1-min, 2-max, 2-min, but just ends up the same, what could I be doing wrong ? All help appriciated

wire feed speed? crap earth? surface not clean enough?

I had the wire speed at 3, the surface for earth I sanded down so it was bare metal ( it was my dented wing so sanded it to bare metal and connected the earth, and the part I was welding to was sanded down to bare metal, so I'm just confused why it keeps doin that

Do you have some scrap plate to try running some beads on first??

Do you know the actual gas flow rate? 10 L/min is average
What kind of stick out are you using? 5-10mm should be about right(ish)
Is the earth clamp/connection good? If not you'll never get decent penetration
Are you just 'dabbing' the weld puddles? Even a tack weld should take a couple of seconds or a little longer
Have you got the torch polarity right? With gas it should be torch positive, with torch negative for gasless wire
Are you concentrating the heat on the nut? Poor contact with the grounded metal may reduce the current flow

With practice and good guidance it will all just fall into place eventually and you'll wonder what the hell you were doing that was so wrong!

What do you mean, you turned the gas on and it's hissing there should be no hissing sounds of escaping gas until you pull the trigger
