What would you advise for my needs?

I will soon be starting up a company which turns road cars into track cars to put it short. Therefore I need to purchase a MIG welder for jobs such as seam/stitch welding chassis, weld in roll cages and fabricating brackets and the like (all steel work).

I’d like your opinions on what sort of MIG welders will reach my needs. I will most probably buy one second hand from eBay to get more for my money.

For biz use, i would not get used, you need something reliable.

Probably something like a PortaMIG 211.

180A would be a good minimum.

Im with shenion it costs quite a bit to start up on your own and you will probably cut corners at the begining, but your going to be doing a lot of welding you need a good foundation to start with. geting a portamig 185 after a sip topmig 150 was a revelation.

You'll need a MIG with a minimum setting of 25 amps for the thin stuff, and around 200 amps for the thick stuff. They are out there. You don't say how thick the brackets are, but I'm guessing 4 or 5mm (FIA stipulate a minimum of 3mm for roll cage mounts).

Personally, I'd not trust track car preparation to anyone who has to ask this kind of question, and I like my roll cages TIGed. I'd advise that you get some serious experience first.
