What wood bit do I need?

I am trying to put 20mm holes through Beach round wood 125mm deep.
All I have is 20mm HSS, and even with lubing the flutes with hard soap, its squealing and binding like mad, getting way too hot, managed to do 2 but it's taking ages.
What would be the best deep reach and accurate bit for this job? - yes mower rollers
Ideally Screwfix click collect or similar.

Re accuracy.
Drill half and half if by hand.

20mm flat bit.
Drill through, letting the bit tell you hoe much force to use.

When the tip breaks through, back off.
Turn the peace over and finish drilling.

Avoid the Screwfix flat bit kits, total tosh for hard woods.

Try to buy a good name.

It's a DeWalt bit there fine

Probably best to use a metal one, wood ones are not very good at all

If you got a Forester Bit in 20mm.
Start with that.
It makes the flat bit easier to control at the start.

Beech is a PITA at times for drilling down the end grain.

I wouldn't
Start with the spade bit. Point on center. Use the spades touching down to get the drill plumb and keep it steady to halfway.
Flip over and repeat.

May have to run a rasp through the middle to remove any deviation but both entry and exit points are bang on

I do have 20mm Forstner bit in 20mm and every spade size but 20mm! - Will go as advised and flip it round on the Dewalt bit.

A lot of the problem may be chip evacuation. Turn drill press upside down.

You could try taking a grinder to the flutes and reduce the land, but ensuring the land goes one full circumference of the bit. Needs a good rigid set up (no holding the stock in your hand) to stop it wandering, but it uses the tools you have.

A Forstner bit will overheat due to the side walls being in contact with the wood. Spade bit every time.

I know the manufacturers reason for the hole in a flat bit but I think it's to stop you sharpening it too often

The hole made me double take
None of my bits has a hole.

grind a mil off each side of a 22 spade ,,, jobs a good un

Grind your HSS drill to have unequal cutting edges, And it will drill oversize, Test it first!!
P.S. Just enough oversize to give the drill shank a little clearance, and run cooler.

Thanks gents for the replies, after a 20mm deep pilot the dewalt spade bit went through pronto with no squealing.
Metal roller was never meant to be on it, rolling pins "turned" out nice.
