What to paint over Zinc Primer with?

What can I use as a top coat over David's Isopon 182 zinc primer? I just want to cover it in a low gloss black to finish off my engine bay and other bits and pieces but nothing seems to adhere!

I've read about Urethane paints but I need something I can just brush on or spray using a can.

Any ideas?

Has the primer been keyed and degreassed beforee top coat? You may have trouble with areosol as they are small quantity of paint lots of thinner and propellant making it solvent sensitive.
Another thing are you going wet on wet or is the primer fully cured? Also are the panels heates up before painting

I had trouble with pickeling when trying top coat over smoothrite rust proofing. Crap stuff anyways

Yeah I went over with sandpaper and i figured it wouldn't need degreasing as it had only recently been applied and I made sure nothing touched it.

I let it fully cure before trying a topcoat, would sooner be better perhaps? I didn't heat anything thing up, just been sitting in the garage but it was a warm enough day.

I bought some smoothrite too but then heard about isopon 182 and used that instead.

rustoleum combi goes over almost anything with little chance of pickling up

focus does their rustolem painters touch rattle cans , or hunt down a tin for brushing

Too be honnest i dont use a lot f areosols only as a guide coat, but once i used rattle can zinc primer and i sprayed it on a warm clean surface let it tack off and went on top with halfrauds yellow filler primer and it was fine, i then baked it with a IR lamp for 15 mins and flatted and top coated the next day with no trouble.

Rustoleum brushes on and flows out pretty good, get a good brush though, I use anything that comes to hand and it's really anoying when the bristles stay in the paint[which always happens where it's visible].
I was given a big can of black and brushed it on stuff when I couldn't be bothered to spray. It flows out really great and seems fairly durable, but was still slightly tacky at 24 hrs. The lid of the can was damaged and the paint was under a thick skin, I had the can for ages[a good few years] and eventually the paint was like bitumen[on a cold day] so I chucked in some basecoat thinners and sprayed it on, went on great and dried quicker.
Bloke who gave me the can, told me to use a bit of foam to put it on, he said you never get any marks in the paint. I never tried it.

I use Zinc 182 quite a lot and I've not found anything that won't go over it, have you left it to cure for 3 or 4 hours?

Thanks for the advice guys, found the problem, I was making a rookie mistake... trying to use various paints which all happened to need no primer and therefore wouldn't stick to anything but bare metal! oops.

Found an old tin of black in a box and tried that and what do you know, it covered it first time.
