1/2 BSP is far far too big! I suspect that you have an X264 lamp, where the control cock screws into an adapter ring, before screwing into the tank, where as later ones just screw into the tank directly.

I'm sure that I read somewhere the other day that the Tilley Lamp company is still trading - just a couple of blokes and a couple of women in a tiny factory somewhere. If the company is that small it might be quite approachable about thread details?
