What the hell is going on with this paint?

As a few of you may know I have spent the last year re furbishing my Toyota Carina Hatchback, I re sprayed it and the finish is the Upol 1k clear coat. I took her out the workshop yesterday ready for mot today, she passed with flying colours ok, but it's been raining yesterday and during the night and I just gave her a wipe down with a leather and there are milky dots all over her where the raindrops were
What the hell is going on? I thought this Upol stuff was supposed to be good?
The paint has been on the car for several months.

have you tried G3,ing it out...that sounds a strange one

Hi Roofman, no not yet mate, I have litterally just got back from the MOT and it's wet out there and soon dark, and I'm hissed off with it, it occurs to me though as the whole car has has been G3'd if I remove the marks with G3 again it will just do it again when it gets wet again? In fact not only has the whole car been machined with G3 and G10 but the whole car has been polished with Autogylm super resin polish

Hopefully it's just muck that when it got wet and then dried it left quite a hard mark to get off. Bit like hard water from the your hose pipe if left to dry on the car a leather really struggles to get it off.

I'd give it a shampoo, rinse & leather first before taking any action.

Could be mate, or maybe lime deposit, I am so disillusioned after all my hard work, it can wait for the moment. I have never seen anything like this before, this car is silver metalic, I also have a dark blue Toyota Camry and I have never had anything like this when I have sprayed bits on that

Flapdisk don't get yourself stressed mate until you def know it's actually in the paint not just crusty marks

Even iff it was "dirty rain" like the airborne sand ect then it should of been wipable off the freshly polished paint...summit going on here matey.Iff you have any paint left over then knock a bit through the gun onto a bit of metal using the same prep as the car and leave it in the rain to see iff you have the same reaction.

people get shirty when i say so but its true , thats the reason bodyshops have used 2k for best part of 30 years

wait till it goes yellow and cracks ..

How many coats of clear did you put on? I think you painted it in the warm dry of summer so it should be well settled by now.

It does sound like it could be dirt in the rain, or fine dirt was on the car and the beading of the polish concentrates the dirt into harder to remove spots.

Hi Miggy, well that's a useful chart mate, the only thing on there which it could be is the industrial fallout,we have a bloody cement works down the road , there is no blistering or damage to the surface, just discolouration, hang on I will see if it will photograph. Got a bit, it's getting dark out there

Yes I did it back in the summer mate, two coats with 25 minutes flash off between

Well I can't spray 2k as it's just a shed in the back yard and I have no air fed gear.

yeah fair enough

im just saying thats what happens

park it in the warm it might dry out - ive seen it go away with no action need

other than that try a gentle wet sand and polish

what will be a real pain is if its in the hot sun and you get a shower , that will mark it

yeah well let it sit and just see , you get this with car covers and the damp gets into it

could try a carefull warming with a hair dryer if you wanted?

bloomin frustrating when things like this happen mate, i would be tempted to try a bit of polish on a discreet area just to see if it will rub out.
hope you get it sorted mate and very nice work restoring her by the way, not everyones cuppa but still a nice job.

Yup! I will give that a go tomorrow Miggy mate, do you mean restoring isn't everyone's cuppa or that particular car? If you meant the car, I bought it new in 1984 and it's been on the road ever since, always passes it's mot and was just starting to get a bit tatty so I thought I would give her a bit of TLC I love my old Toyota's especially my Camry, the wife uses this Carina and she loves it. They don't make them as solid as these now mate.

Looks like you polished over water spots, had that happen before. I stay away from polish nowadays. After you have used g3 or similar use a clay bar and wax. Superior resin especially makes a mess of modern dark colours, have s good look on a sunny day at all the shiny dark cars, nearly all have damaged paint - usually a hologram effect as it's now in the valeting world.
