What sort of plastic is this?

Just had a bit of a issue on my vehicle scissor lift!

Small bit of metal dropped down into the guide runners then when the lift was lowered got caught in the bush ultimately splitting it in 2

Its a 4200kg lift so fair bit of pressure on it

Attached a few pictures of the broken one and a few bits of plastic I've got around here but not sure if they'd be hard enough to make a new one from?

Maha cant supply for approx 3 weeks!

If not has anyone got a small bit approx 100mmx 40mmx50mm i could buy please

Make one out of hardwood until the replacement arrives. Buy a cheap plastic chopping board and screw strips on for the sliding surfaces. A commercial kitchen chopping board is over 20mm thick, so two layers screwed together would make the 40mm dimension.

Bottom left picture, the plastic appears to have fibres in it, but that might just be dirt.

Thought if I'm going to the hassle of making one may aswell do it right and no need to buy one then

I dont know what kind of safety impications it would have if failing, but I would want nylon, acetal or uhmwpe.
Dont mess about with chopping boards as they creep with any load on them.

I would be inclined to get the right part on it. Insurance won't be happy if someone gets killed if that part fails and they find it's been modified (unlikely I know, but better to be safe than sorry)

I've got whats left of a mahogany staircase that was taken out of my Mum in laws place. The newell post ( or whatever they are called) is about 3 inches square- if I cut off a length 100mm long , I could post it you at cost (£3.20?) if that would be any good . I would think as a slider it wants a bit of lubrication now and again. You would have to saw it to size and drill it obviously....

Can't actually go anywhere if it did crack its still in the runner the bush is just to avoid metal on metal scraping

I can understand that, But You know how Insurance companies like to wriggle out of their liabilities. Even if the part plays no part in a claim, they will still say it a modification

Definitely not uhmwpe. That stuff is way too soft.

I'd say it's HDPE or Acetal non homogenous

Amazing what you can "definitely" tell from a photo.

We use loads of UHMW-PE
This is an off cut from a damaged fender panel.
Its SG is in the range for UHMW-PE.
I won't have a data sheet for it as God knows where it came from (most we use comes from Germany) however it looks and cuts very similarly to new stuff that I do have certs for.

If it's good enough for huge container ships to slide against, I think it will do @s410man job, but of course it is up to him if he uses it or not.
Pretty sure it will be better than what he has.

What it is, is almost irrelevant unless you propose to produce the replacement using the ssme process as the original is made.

That original has not been machined from a solid lump. It has been cast/extruded/moulded. A plastic suitable for that method of production may not be easy to machine; conversely, a good, machinable plastic probably won't like to be heated up and squeezed into a small space.

All the scissor arm bushes and sliders I've fitted have been machined, you can see the machining marks on the surfaces.

The block with the multi holes is (I suspect) the fixed pivot block the other one is the sliding block/pivot.
