What paint for old machinery?

I dont like the colour of the latheand it's paint leaves a lot to be desired. I know it's got character but as its now mine, I want to spend a bit of time making it mine. Maintenance is sorted, the oils are done, ways are lubed, its been thoroughly cleaned of wood from previous user...but I want a different colour, and whatever I pick will likely be the base for any tools I make...thinking pale blue.

Would likely also do things like the vice, bench grinder and what not.

Is enamel the way to go? Like a coach builders enamel? Or something else?

Preferably brush application and dries smooth, but won't cover up things like casting marks etc

best stuff is tractol fast drying metal paint using zylene thinners .sprayed or hand painted from smith and allen darlington they do post .same stuff as paragon paints but a tenner cheaper thats what iuse for decent machinery everything else gets painted with what i can get cheap

A second recommendation for Tractol, it's good stuff. Far easier to use in the warm.

Chances are, it's been previously finished in an oil based synthetic so yes, that's definitely the way forward. Best heated than chemically thinned for brush, roller or gun application.

Another vote for tractol. See if there are any stockists near you, saves on the postage charge.

All the independant car paint shops and agri merchants round here stock it.

its cream/beige at the moment, there is red underneath that and grey underneath that...grey may have been primer

Btw only use the correct thinners to thin tractol paint. Standard thinners will make the paint curdle.

you might be able to get the zylene thinners local cheaper than getting it posted its the only stuff that will thin it or clean the spraygun or paint brushes out .celly thinners wont

most have color charts or can mix the color from a sample
