The metal box it’s in is about 5” x 8”s
By the way I’ve no idea what it’s for…

It's a snatch-back ferret valve, to be used with a heavy duty icos fossillator

It is to dot peen a serial number on something. The tip is like a mini pneumatic drill and under/above that is a X-Y stage controlled by stepper motors. Air solenoid stops the writing between letters (raises the 'pen'). Working area is the rectangular cut out in the part with duct tape on it.

That is why it has a multi-pin connector on it: step, direction and power for two axes as well as solenoid (Z-axis) control. Green and red buttons also need control wires. No one would put such an expensive mil-spec connector on it if it were not needed.
