I unbolted the section of rack off the machine bed i am converting last night. The machine bed is in inches (or "bananas" as we now call them), the fasteners are all UNC.
The rack looks to be metric.
It's 1540mm long, 60mm wide.
Looks like 10mm pitch and 6.8mm from top to root. No imperial measurements made sense. As you can see - 10 teeth over 100mm.
So.... it's 3.18 module? That doesn't seem very common. But it comes out very close to 2.5DP... but as you can see, it's not 10 pitches = 101.6mm, so it can't be 2.5DP.
I am not clued up on gear diametral or module pitches, I haven't done any since college. I know some of you on here are, could you put me right here?
Or is it a one-off?
Is it any use to anyone, or should I scrap it?
I kinda thought it might be good as a plasma cutter cross travel if i could get a gear to match it.
