Hello! I have an Ongoing issue with a spot weld/tack weld..
Lincoln electric power wave r450 on a Fanuc arc mate 120id. MIG
Mode 76 Pulse 5xxx, 250IPM, 1.1TRIM, speed(irrelavent, its a tack.) Time.40, No weave.
Sitting about 3/4 away from the part, using 5356 Alluminum 3/64 wire. Welding on a 5052 sheet of laser cut material that is .125 thick.
All this weld is, is a TACK weld. robot goes to this Weld point, and welds one spot for .40 seconds just to hold the part to the other part.
Every so often i get this smudge and weird white tail that extends about 3-4 inches away from the spot i welded. Dont even know how to describe it accurately which is why ive included a photo. Any ideas what this is? what is causing it? and how i can prevent it? The black residue around the Spot i can handle with a wire brush because i end up welding over it anyways, But that white tail looking thing traveling far from the weld itself is the problem, i cant scratch that off and still have a clean looking part....
When this happens it scraps the part. Im welding a Keel strip onto a nose cone for pontoon boats. Scrapping it at this stage wastes ALOT of time and money...
Please help! i cannot figure it out.
I have attempted to Change my weld settings, ive adjusted IPM, also TRIM, and Time but to no avail.
Any ideas?
