What I did this week.....

Not very exciting pictures but thought it might be of interest to some one.
All done with gassless mig ( BOC Smoothcore GS over 5kg so far) 50 x 50 x 2mm super galv tube. I have to say I'm impressed with the wire once I got over the preconceptions I had. Welds very well and sticks like ........ to a blanket. The welds do end up looking like arc welds, and require cleaning afterwards.
Anyway not finished yet but they will be stables for the other half, her horses not her, who while willing to help is about as useful as a rubber spanner.

How do the horses react to the polythene roof when it's windy?

We ( the other half ) has 7 horses the 3 minis don't react at all unlkess it's food. and the others are 'wild' New Zealand Kaimanawa, which are mainly ex army horses ( let go after WW 1 ) crossed with what ever else was dumped in the ranges. So ex army horses with extra inbreeding does not a bright horse make, they have the combined intelligence of a cabbage ( don't repeat this ) . In a word they don't seem to mind much, we had gales before I started the rebuild and I got up and to go and check they were eating. Being all boys they cant multi task, eat and panic !

Interesting, the horses not so much apart from the fact they normally have a female in tow ,ha. would be nice to have a few close ups on welds and actual settings used, always good to have the knowledge. bet the beasties enjoy being out of the weather .Arther

A few specifics of the welds:
ESAB 200Ci Mig Caddy
BOC Smoothcore GS 0.8mm
15Volts 5.5m/m wire speed.

Tried Q-set but it does not work with gasless wire as the voltage is to low, tries 12Volts. Also having tried 0.9mm tips as suggested ( bearing in mind it's 0.8mm wire ) I can safely say DON'T, use 0.8mm tips as recomended on the packaging. Otherwise you go through a tip every few minutes, as the arc jumps from inside the tip to the wire and the flux runes the tips.

geussing you use gasless for portability?

Gasless for three reasons
1) No bottle to drag around.
2) we live on a hill it's always windy.
3) welding super galv: galvanised tube.
