Was that not common in the days of folk playing pocket billyards through the overall pockets! Machine shops were cold places in the old days!

When I was an apprentice in the 60s the oil drainer was emptied using compressed at at 90 psi , it had what was supposed to be an automatic valve at the bottom of the “funnel” which didn’t always work . I got caught once when it did its gusher impression

A colleague and I were operating a bespoke crane at 2500psi when a 4" dia, 8" long filter casing exploded next to us, as in within a couple of feet. The gusher shot straight up, stayed still for a millisecond then toppled like a tree. How neither of us were hit by the casing shrapnel I'll never know.

Turns out the filter maker had incorrectly labeled a batch of aluminium return filter casings as for high pressure. From memory the one that went bang was rated for around 500psi but give it it's due had been running for about 5 years before it gave up.

The filter supplier came out same day and replaced with the correct, cast iron, high pressure filter.

Except for the spider and drum assembly . It's becoming the case that if your washer is over 6 yrs old you're better off buying a newer more modern machine with a 2 yr warrantee on it .

Sadly thats the case, think the old one was about 9 years old and it does get a lot of use.

They're consumables. It's nice to keep something running beyond its years, but the initial design has to cater for that. If it doesn't, replace.

Sounds like you've had your money's worth out of it.
