What I broke today...........

As a change from the other thread about what I/we made today, I thought it'd be interesting to post about the other side of the coin. They confession is good for the soul, so I'll pitch in first.

In an uncharacteristic fit of enthusiasm I decided to treat the Myford to a spot of grease in the appropriate places. All went well until I tried to remove the grease gun from one of the nipples - it was SO nearly off that Stupo here gave a little twist, and snapped the head off, leaving the thread flush with the casting.

Now I'm faced with removing the threaded portion, preferably without having to strip the whole top end of the Tri-Leva shaft. I'm thinking perhaps an Allen key knocked in and carefully unwinding? I've not got any l/h drills etc. Oh, and of course it's the one where there's least access

Suggestions on a postcard, please.

Use the end of a file (bit that goes in the handle) , gently tap it in and unscrew.

Grease nipples on mine [as it arrived, not replaced by me], the L/H end of this top shaft - and it would be the awkward one, of course.

there oilers on the countershaft I have just had mine to bits and fitted a clutch on it you may call it a grease nipple but it takes oil pumped in with a myford oil gun. here

i only broke through the roof today

as we are installing a large dormer on top of the property

building control has been passed one part failed another so have to get steel girder before we can continue with the job

lifting loverly 22ft 12x4 beams is no fun up a scaffold as 3 of them have been lifted

I think it would be more appropriate to call them "lubrication points" to avoid confusion.

From what I've seen grease rarely makes an appearance in machine tool save for the motors..and the vertical head on my Elliott.

Anyway...in the spirit of the thread...although not broken I did manage to set one of my fence posts 70mm too high. I could come up with all sorts of excuses but in reality it's probably just because I'm a tit.

I'll nip the top off it later.

the nipples are very small. try getting a small slotted screwdriver grind down either side to a taper. put in in the hole and tap it with a hammer and it should bite in .then screw it out .might need a pair of pliers on the handle mind to get some purchase

Not a frogeye I hope, nothing is beyond repair with a welding set and determination

Not broke but melted. Who would have thought you can't put 12v @ 30 amps through a wire rated at 17 amps. It's for a large scale model based on a three wheel scooter. The electrics were shot, so I got a Chinese speed controller off the bay and wired that in. Doubling the wires sorted it out. Now to build the cab

what voltage though is the wire rated at . 240v ?? lower the voltage higher the amperage
