I'm sure they only ever made a handful of them.

Useful looking bit of kit and probably no worse to use than a standard telehandler, the backhoe would be about the same weight as the counterweight it replaced.

Think it looks really useful actually, just a night mare to work on. Especially when as it said somewhere in the article they have used the back half of a new Holland and the french engineers cobbled it together with one of thier tele-handler. Makes it sound as though it was a good idea badly executed.

I know someone who's spent a bit of time on one. I think he said the back actor was built by New Holland so actually a decent back end. I don't think he liked the front but then it's a tele handler not a backhoe so didn't have the digging force he was used to.

For me if it was a little smaller it would be bloody handy. The 2CX (when the engine is working) is bloody handy but most of what I do with the front loader is pallet fork work etc. and having the extra reach of a telehandler would be amazing. I'm in a bit of an odd situation though that it's basically the ideal machine for me but in general I think most people would prefer a dedicated "digger" and telehandler.

There's one going relatively cheap on facebook. I thought it looked like a useful bit of kit.
Its got the usual disadvantages of 3CX type machines: not amazing at digging, not amazing at loading, and even worse at travelling.
But as a swiss army knife of a machine, its pretty cool. The telescopic boom and manitou headstock makes it pretty compelling as a farmers backup/odd job machine alongside a regular manitou telehandler.

That's the thing, backhoes aren't the best at pure digging, nor the best at pure loading but try and find a machine that can do a bit of everything anywhere near as good as a backhoe and you'll struggle. Especially if you can have only one machine. My wee 2CX will out dig (in terms of depth and reach) a 5t 360 and will out lift most tractor based loaders certainly ones that are comparable in physical size yet still turns in its own length and tighter than most hatchbacks.

I think the only thing I'd really want is a 4 in 1 bucket for it as backhoes are damn good at grading when you know what you're doing. I think on balance the extra reach (provided it could still handle 2t) would be more beneficial now that the bulk of my excavation work is done.
