hello, dan from lincoln,am learning to weld ordered a portomig 185 and very excited.doing thin stuff and my landy racer chassis, and other bits so it might sound stupid but what gas do i need?if your reading mr weldquip will some-one help me.
I'm pretty much a total begginer myself, and my welding with my gas less was laughable, it actualy fell apart!
So I tried a Clarke 151TE with the disposable cylinder. Some inprovement but still horribly poor.
Fitted it up to a Ferromaxx 7 cylinder and it transformed my welding. Dont think I will ever get a job with Spondon engineering but what a difference. I could easily see the molten pool and chase it along, and see exactly what I was doing (still making mistakes, but at least now I could work out what I was doing wrong!)
I turned the welder down too (Welding 2mm according to the instructions called for max/setting 2) and with the new gas I turned it down to max/1 although even this appears to be on the high side.
