Cleaned the existing filters and took it all apart and gave it a good blow out (don’t worry, I know it wasn’t used for asbestos in its past life):

i think it is a valve for if the filter gets blocked or it over heats. it pops and blows air through to cool down . i will have a look at mine later.

we already have a pretty good one already from the good members on the forum who do travel the country at least some good tools can be held at someones elses closer than the original distance than it was before

This is a very common type of vac used by asbestos surveyors to clean up small amounts of debris when taking samples.

that switch is a shake down for the filter. They are almost always disabled

Just thinking - does that mean there's a possibility there may asbestos traces in it, if it's second-hand? How would you "make-safe" something like this?

That’s always a risk as these vacs were widely used in that the industry.

Filters and bags should be changed by sending the unit to a place with decontamination facilities. This is usually a large fume cabinet with HEPA filters

Interestingly, where has it come from? Do you know?

It’s very unusual to have a magnehilic gauge fitted on a vac. It will have been done for a very specific purpose or application.

It came out of a school workshop that was closing down because the government thinks we don’t need skilled trades any more. Came with a folder of LEV and filter change records since the year dot (or at least until a few years ago when they couldn’t even afford maintenance).

Bodged up a hose and gave the plunge saw a whirl this morning - both work great! Will add to that thread later.

That gauge probably costs more than most modern hoovers
