Finally got all the new gear together, and the time to try it out. Thanks to Weldequip, and the decent tutorials, got my new portamig and argoshield together, up and running. Would now like opinions and criticisms please. just a quick run whilst kids were dozing!

fine volts 2, course volts1, wire speed 5, 0.6mm wire, 1.24mm steel. whole piece only 2ish inches log, another pic

I think the weld looks a little unsteady, you should try using the table or something else for support for your elbow or hand. Also, you got a nasty finish, I can see you've removed the material, but the "melting bath" haven't filled the "hole". (I don't really know these expressions in English). You should hold the torch still for a second at the end there. As for the shape of the weld, I can't really tell if it's good or bad.

does not look to bad but I agree wit the other 2 need more power and stedy your self.

when I am laid in a confined space welding over head with the size and weight of a 500amp water cooled torch you soon find you are wandering as your arms get tired and I find that even if you can drag a finger along the work piece it steadys you a lot.

If its a portamig unit the base starting power on amperage is only about 20 amps, which is good for 0.8mm or thinner 1.2mm probaly wants to go up two power settings from bottom.

Always fun with a new machine is getting used to the settings on a new machine
