What do you think about Einhell TC-BD 630 drill press

Hi everyone.

I have read a lot about drill press and I have follow your advice in the forum.

The problem is that in Spain there is very little supply of that kind of tools (In Physical stores, and I prefer buy it in one physical store) so looking the best model I have found is the Einhell TC-BD630.

I have looked up in Einhell Uk web, but it does´nt appear, so I leave you the specs on the english handbook.

What do you think? It is for hobby, steel, aluminum, wood... I´m not going to do big things whit it. I prefer precision to size. It cost 192 £

Maybe the lower velocity is to high (250 rpm) but I don´t know enough to assess that

Hi Robert.suprised there's no reg suppliers....
Im sure I saw the equiv of a B+Q there......think like Screwfix they do Einhell.....
look for a tractor repair spare parts place u may have better luck.....
also look on Facebook selling...theres always stuff on there.....u may have to join a few forums...
here in Crete there are several to do with ex pats etc.........
If u get to see any piller drill in the flesh grab hold of the chuck and see if the shaft wobbles at the position of almost closed to nearly fully extended......
any slop means inaccuracy....supose its OK for a few thou.....look at 2-3 on the same shelf in the stores cos u could find something better built....on the cheap end of the market it's all to do with luck.....

I find also next brands Spark, Mader, holzmann, Zipper, Yamato and Scheppach.

If one of these sounds good for you please tell me.

Of those, I've seen Scheppach over here in the UK. They've been IME slightly better than most in the cheap machine stakes. My suspicion would be that all the cheap drills are rebadged versions of the same drill. Some offbrand names are made to sound like other better know brands, or hint at a country that has a reputation for high quality machines. From the above, Holzmann, to me vaguely German, holz implying wood and mann sounding German.

What about the specs of the first one, the Einhell? Peopole talks well about it, but the specs are good for a hobbyist?

While Einhell & Scheppach may once have manufactured their own stuff in Germany most of their stuff is now Made in China with some final assembly taking place in Germany so that they can put 'Made in Germany' on it.

Both companies supply a lot of the power tools to Aldi & Lidl with different branding on them.

That being said, some of their stuff is quite good quality but it depends on what range it is. They have a hobby/DIY range which will not be as good or accurate as their pro range.

You can't always go by price either - I was in a tool shop & they had pillar drills ranging from £200 to over £1000, brands like Sealey, SIP & Clarke, all made in China but every one of them had some degree of slop in the spindle, getting less as the price went up!
My 1974 British made Meddings has no slop at all & cost relatively less money.

Is there nowhere in Spain to buy 2nd hand British drills like Meddings, Fobco, etc? Maybe ebay?

Yes there are some butI´m not sure about buying tools of that kind in internet. I´m not experienced. And the shippings are very high.

I think I´ll buy the einhell. Have good reviews. But I´m not sure if the specs are ok. The RPM and that kind of thins are OK?
