Faffing about? I learned a new UK word today.
Faffing About > to spend time doing things in a way that is not well organized and that does not achieve much.
Stop faffing about and get on with it!
Could say the above many times a day at work...
Faffing about? I learned a new UK word today.
COMMON language?
Sorry, but this is going to bug me, if I don't ask.
What was wrong with the word "common"?
Not forgetting the **** and ass debacle. They have a "bathroom" which contains no bath. Likewise a "restroom" where the only place to rest is on the throne. You will find an engine under a "hood" and luggage in a "trunk".
In sewing, we have a French seam and a Felled seam. They have a top stitch and a double top stitch.
We have gallons, they call something else a gallon.
We fuel our cars with Petrol(ium) spirit, they seem able to pump "gas" from an open nozzle into a petrol tank.
We can spell colour, labour and pronounce the letter Z properly.
Enough yet?

I went there today and this is the machine in question, and you can see the coil of 1.0mm wire on the left.the museum that I volunteer at has a wire straighter and cutter I occasionally demonstrate and the use 1mm MIG wire from a 5kg coil and that straightens it and cuts it to shorter lengths (about 50mm or 300mm long. the machine was originally used in the production of hypodermic needles.
