what cutting compound? less splatter?

i just did some minor correction on my car with farecla G3, 10 mins polishing and then hour and half cleaning off all the splatter thats found its way everywhere

what do you use ? is there anything thats less messy these days ? needs to polish 1500 scratches via rotary

I just hung an old wet sheet over the roof and covered the windows....saves a lot....
u still get a bit on the side glass when polishing the door panels but so much less...
same with the grill n chrome bumpers...

OK, a few things.
1. Farecla is what body shops use. They just pressure wash it off. It really isn’t the best, leaves buffer trails everywhere etc.
2. Do not apply too much compound. On a 5 inch pad you was no more than 5 spots about the size of a 5p coin, max.
3. Slower rpm on the machine. Start at the lowest speed to spread the compound and work up as it thins out.
4. Any water based compound will have the same problems. You wet the pad and that starts the process of flinging it everywhere. Try something like Menzerna and use proper pad lubricant. Look for a diminishing polish as you work these until they go clear and then just wipe off the residue.
5. If you must use water based compound, first wet the pad, then use max speed with the head held over the top of a bucket to fling the excess water out, and then add a small amount of compound.

which menzerna compares to g3 in cutting ability ? thanks

Depends on what you're doing. FG400 is a good all rounder, but the finish might need refining a bit.

i want something that will remove 1500/2000 scratches from wet sanding , i dont need the finish to be perfect and accept it may need another product to refine

They have changed some of their product names, but try this one, or have a look at the range and see what you think.
TIP: If Menz quote a cut of 10/10, it's very aggressive. This is factory stuff at Merc where they use ceramic lacquers.

You're always going to get some dust. Splatter is only an issue if you over-load the pad. I have used this stuff for about 20 years and it's the cleanest I can find. I've tried a lot of polishes and compounds in that time including the favourites among detailing guys but Menz always gives the best results for me. That's on a Makita Rotary. It's less good on a Dual-Action machines because the machine itself cannot generate enough torque to get the diminishing process working.
