What coating for shed exterior...?

Pretty soon (once the feather edge episode is over) and hopefully it might help reduce it curling, I thought I might apply some form of paint or stain to the exterior.

@bigegg nice thought but her indoors will move my living accommodation there it is on a 12 x10 cedar sun room in the garden

i use old engine oil, water just runs off and it saves me going to the dump with it, apart from the smell i cant see any downsides

Black bitumen paint, then go over it with a roofing torch, and boil the tar into the wood.

You chaps are obviously looking to my well-being, not totally sure which advise to follow will give it some thought

Ive been looking and Ive been told a few times that the Bedec Barn Paint is the best but only in Black. In Norfolk you see quite a few wood clad buildings and they are traditionally black.
My problem is I dont want mine to be black, in fact, I want it quite pale as the doors are dark grey and they go together (in my opinion). So ive gone for Cuprinol as it was on offer in Wilko. Ive painted my other sheds with it and its OK for 5 years.

The trouble with wooden sheds is that the bits that are most prone to rot are practically impossible to treat. The bottom bearer members, usually in contact with a slab or bare earth, need saturating in preservative before they are built.

I've just rebuilt two chicken sheds both of which bare out that comment. One I had to jack up on scaffold poles and totally replace the floor and bottom 12". Quite a palaver.

In the past i have used pressure treated timber for the bottom bearers laid onto 100mm damp course membrane, fold up the edges and staple to the sides and ends.That way the timber is not in direct contact with any potentially damp concrete.

All mine are lifted off the slab, either on a 12mm neoprene strip, or my shed an outline of engineering bricks with damp proof coarse on top, keeps bottom rail dry.

Ive gone for cuprinol too, again because it was on offer at wilko, have 10, 5 ltr cans for two coats. Ask me in 5 years if its any good!

I didn't want black either, currently very fashionable, but fashions fade over time. I've purchased 5ltrs worth of Bedec in Chesnut.

I assume its for resistance to sun light...like black tyres

I guess that might be so, though I hope not. I'm planning to paint a few in this colour.

I painted mine with red oxide from screwfix, Still looks ok.
