what are those?

as shown in another post, i have these 2...things...

no idea what they are, what they are meant to do or what they came off so any advice greatly appreciated.

they both appear to be indentical, only 1 is mounted on what appears to be part of a cross slide or some form of dovetail mount

sat on a 9" faceplate for scale

A stab in the dark with some Google behind it suggest it's a milling attachment----maybe.

How is the dial graduated? Does the other end move in and out when you rotate the handwheel? Do the readings increase when turned clockwise or anti-clockwise? What does the other end look like (plain bore, tapered bore, etc.). The knurled screw suggests the dials are resettable/zero-able.

They vaguely resemble a very large micrometer (bed) stop for something, but that is speculation.

found this...appear to be radius cutters for a hardinge model C

it appears i have about 3/4 of 1 and 1/2 of another...that said, there is a small, yet incomplete, compound slide in the box of bits...think it may all go together to make a radius cutter

So I have this slide, although missing ita hand wheel and graduated marker...or any reasonable fasteners...but the attachment fits it perfectly and the 4 holes line up too...so, this is now a future project and from the markings appears to be a 0-1.750" radius cutter which is something that could definitely come in handy...

Not entirely sure how I would mount it to the smart and brown as ita got a V in the bottom as if it sits directly on the ways, but i think there is definitely a way to make it work

Cheers for that. looks an easy tool to use, just need to figure out whether its worth repairing this slide its meant to sit on and then modify to fit my lathe, or just make something to adapt it to replace compund slide...

on quick glance at the slide, the gib is missing, the screws to hold it together are missing, the small thread on the end of the lead screw for measuring wheel are gacked up, the measuring wheel and hand wheels are missing, the lead screw is either full or crud, or bent as its nigh on impossible to turn it without pliers, the 2 small bearings are also crunchy...the screws that hold the radius tool to the slide are also missing.

the actual radius tools both look in good working order though. 1 has a bit of slack in it, the other is quite firm and seems to have had relatively little use

and yes, its a very nice bit of kit...bloody expensive if you listen to the yanks too...one on ebay now for £850 plus £220 postage...

that said, i have a use for it...well 1 at least so its all be grouped together into a box and once my milling attachment is cleaned up and ive cleared the backlog of bits ive already been asked to make i think im going to take some time and figure out the easiest way to mount it where my compund slide sits and use it that way.

funilly enough i was planning on buying a radius/ball turning tool. dont suppose i need to now
