Now you mention MOtor generator sets daleyd, they do look like smaller versions of big MG sets that I used to work on in stouthart and Pitt dockside cranes.

Yeah they brought back some memories of similar from my apprenticeship but never saw any in "real life" . The stuff I worked on after I finished my time had moved on to things like static frequency converters and thyristors, though we were still taught the theory.
