What are these used on?

Bought along with a load of bolts and nuts. I think they are for concrete or the like but what drill would take them? They are 2inch across the cutter and 4 inch in length.

Old and obsolete now. They are the tips that went on the ends of drill bits for boring shot firing holes in the coal mines.
Unused by the looks of things.

We have a load of ex miners in the family - i've seen loads of them in ex miners sheds and garages

Father in law had them in his shed and also used to have the stuff they used to seal the holes, like a long sausage with two colour filler and hardener. He used the filler for everything from car repairs to sticking stuff to concrete walls. They shoved the stuff in the hole then rammed it with a bar to mix it. The pointy end of the bit that fitted into the drill used to get cut off and used as a centre punch.

Lots of those were used on the ICI titanium plant, I have used the Tungsten carbide tip for all sort of things, including lathe tool tips to glass cutters They originally fitted to the end of long fluted auger bars for drilling deep holes as mentioned the coal industry and quarrying etc, When the auger got a slight bend we could buy them for pennies on a scrap chit, they made great heavy duty railing or gate spindles.
