What am I going to do with this oil tank cabinet thing?

This was bought second hand by my grandfather. Probably got a "good deal".

It's a horrendously over engineered oil tank. Inside the main cabinet are two removable lead sealed tanks. The top is covered by an up an over hood you can just about see in the PIC.

I could tart it up and use it. The only problem is, it's utterly useless. You have to tip oil into it in order to pump it out....?! Presumably you used to be able to get oil delivered in like you can diesel or burning oil.

I could sell it but it would be worth little more than scrap I'd imagine for the reason above.

I might be able use the pumps for 205l barrels and fashion the body into a cupboard but that'd be a fair bit of work for a cupboard.

Could turn the base into a plasma table...

It's just a bit too well made for me to bring myself to bin it!!

Any other ideas?

thats the kind of thing that transport museums like, we have a mock up of an old garage in the local bus museum and that kinda thing would fit in perfect.

Haha, some great suggestions! Had a look on eBay and it might be worth £50 to a collector but the paint is neither good enough nor original/patina'd nicely enough to be worth much more.

If I can't think of a project I want to use it for, I'd be happy to sell for that sort if cash or donate to a museum.

Guess I could restore it and sell on bit of a gamble though as I'd have to find a buyer!

Put a cornellius keg in each side and use it for dispensing beer

I used one of those in my first job when I left school, Castrol XL in one side, Castrol something else in the other, can't remember what, not GTX, before that came out. Every so often Castrol came in with a bowser like truck & topped it up. All the garages had them then. Used it to fill up the traditional 1 pint & quart oil jugs with a funnel spout.

No they were both engine oil, XL & whatever the other grade was, XXL I think but not sure

the skinyard had one of them filled with machine oil near us. we used to get in compound and fill gallon cans with it and use it as 2 stroke oil on a bsa bantam and a james with villiers engine that was when we were skint , {every week.} it worked ok without any problems
