I doubt a little petrol will damage the engine. Considering the crap I've run diesel engines on over the years....erm.....

You do need to drain the tank, I'd do it by disconnecting the fuel line at the pump and slaving in another electric pump to empty the tank.

Watch out for the disposal of environmental waste charge for getting rid of your petrol.

This is what I was planning to do (similar) but am too busy at work, so have dropped it of a local mechanic (very local, he is pushing the van from my front door the whole 5 doors to his lockup)

His rates are good, so is his work, and I think he needs the work, so would rather give it to him while I sit in the office earning it

As for getting rid of it, I was actually just going to let it evaporate, and a small amount may have found its way onto the bonfire (not neat, but soaked in sawdust, rags etc.)

Anyway, he'll sort that out now, while I sort out my drawings (Client presentation tomorrow and they have just discovered a lot of what was done in Bangalore is wrong - I told them it would happen)

Ah. Now dishwashers are something else entirely! Anyone here replaced an old dishwasher only to find the new one takes twice as long to do the cycle? Our one at home takes about 45 mins to do a thorough clean and it's getting on for 15 years old. Here though, we've got a 3 or 4 year old one and it takes 95 mins! Plus it doesn't clean as well. Apparently it's all down to some 'green' EU directive that says dishwashers can only use water at a certain temp and may only use so many litres of water. Great. So my dishes are swilling around in the same, filthy, luke-warm water for an hour and a half...

Just went out yesterday and bought a Bosch dishy (apparently a much better make and should live a bit longer than the Hotpoint(sorry but 2 years is a joke))... Ching, ching goes the till as £360 of my hard earned pennies gets sucked into the pocket of another dishwashing manufacturer.

Now I have to get the marigolds out for another week before it is due to be delivered.

NEVER again will I buy anything Hotpoint, two years and then pop goes the main pump. The most ridiculous thing is my mate has exactly the same dishwasher even the same model. Guess what? pop his went 2 weeks ago after a really coincidental 2 years of use. These companies who make things with built in faults that fail just after the warranty should all be named and shamed. I rest my case.

dishwashers Pah! get the washing bowl and the fairy liquid out, and clean by hand. The first time i used one at my brothers i could not belive how long the damn thing took to clean the dishes. i could have cleaned each one with an eye dropper of water and a q-tip and took less time about it.

they must use more energy than a moon rocket over the course of a year.

Van is fixed Mechanic said it was no problem, emtied it with a fuel pump (he keeps one especially for this) then flushed it with diesel.

£85 all in, including 3 gallons of Diesel, saves me getting covered in flammable stuff.

Anyone who has followed my blog on the Aston restoration will already know that when I make a mistake, it is always a Very Expensive Mistake.

I am also prone to ebay related thicky moments...

I listed a whole lot of stuff left over from our house renovation - including a £300 shower screen that sold for £90. Guy sends a courier to collect. A week later phones to say that the hinges had come out during transit due to it being badly packed.

I told him to get stuffed it was fine when it left me - then felt bad because if I had bought something and it arrived incomplete I would be cross - so i sent him an email saying I would contribute to the cost of the hinges (BIG mistake).

He sends me an invoice for over £100 for the new hinges. I sit quietly for a few days fuming that I'm being taken for a ride and considering the next move. He phones me up asking where the money is - I tell him to get stuffed. He then says he has an email from me stating that I will pay for the hinges and he will take me to the small claims court with that as evidence if I don't pay.

I sent him a refund for the screen - £90, out of pocket £300 + ebays cost etc and feeling a) very cross and b) very stupid.

I hate ebay. And yet I am strangly addicted to it.

Did you not ask for the item back before giving the refund?
Agree that ebay has gone down the toilet in the past few years. When I first started using ebay in 2004 people were ALWAYS genuine. Now everyone seems to want to take you for a ride - avoid ebay at all costs.

Well done Sean - some good news for once and not too expensive. Years ago I heard that adding 10% petrol to Diesel was common practise to 'thin it out in winter'.
