I've just imported a wendy's pancake, I'll review upon arrival...

Main reason being, I do 90 percent of my welding outside and I'm fed up with glare on the back of the lens.

Going to rock a shade 11 aulektro gold lens in it.

I think I'd just tape a piece of proban overalls to cover the back of my head!

I've velcro'd a bit of leather from a welders apron to the back of my helmet so that it hangs down the back of my neck, and it works superbly keeping the glare out of the back of the lens and also stops those little charring sensations in your hair

What is it for? Other than being the worlds ugliest welding helmet. Instead of importing things, couldn't you just buy O/A goggles and stick a bit of cardboard on the front?

They make more sense when you see a pair of weldors grovelling around in a muddy ditch working the same butt on a pipeline for example

I still don't see why they would be any better than say my speedglas with a proban hood attached

Each to their own... personally i can't think of many things more uncomfortable than a long day in those sorts of positions with the weight of my speedglas on my head. Plenty of other welding jobs where either a pancake or a regular bucket etc will drive you insane as a monkey mask is needed to squeeze your head past whatever is in the way of the thing you're trying to weld. In a workshop when there's no muddy puddles to drop a spendy ADF mask into they're usually king as you can change shade by pressing a button etc

Dunno about the Wendy's pancakes but tradtionally the eyepiece is balsa wood and you sand it for a perfect fit. Zero chance of glare or dust etc getting in. Incredibly light, won't try and fall off like a normal bucket can in those positions unless you tighten the head gear more and (personally at least) get a headache as a result.

Is there not Such a thing, similar to those with the screen goggle mounted but with leather, cloth, uv resistant material bag over your head. This would be ideal for welding underneath cars when you need to squeeze you head between the propshaft and the exhaust to see what your doing. And it would stop getting sparks in your ears etc wile under cars.

They are designed for stoving only in the 5g position,so are for pipeliners mainly.if you need to do a 2g or the bad side of a 6g you are in trouble

I Stumbled across this on instagram. Looks dodgey....... I never saw one before this thread.

In the video hotrodder posted the welders don't chip and brush their last weld and start straight in with another rod. Surely that is bad practice leading to slag inclusions, especially in something critical like a pipeline. Or am I missing something?

The problem with car welding is that you very rarely do more than 30mm sometimes 10mm in one run before having to adjust you or guns position, then you might need the grips or hammer to readjust the gap etc and with a leather hood or monkey mask it is a pain coz even with a flip up it still restricts your vision and you end up banging your head on something, I like a firemans or racing balaclava

with goggles type mask or just holding the tinted glass its self in very awkward positions

I did get one of these but couldnt get on with it
