Weller Pyropen - repair help

I've dug out a Weller Pyropen, quickly remembering why I had stopped using it; The push button for the ignition doesnt always return. The stainless strip that covers the air holes, is the cause. The bend has kinks. Would it still work if I took it off.

I MIGHT still have one that you can have for spares. I got sick of it, having already had it serviced by Weller yet it still overfuels regardless of the setting. Remind me to look in the office Monday if you would like it.

The early Portasol irons didn't have a built-in ignitor, there was a flint "lighter" in the cap, if that packed up I would light it with a normal lighter, that may work for yours?.

You can lite the end but that doesnt energise the ceramic to give hotair.

OK, it must work different to an iron then, I would just put a flame near the catalyst port to light it.

Its a hit and miss affair doing it that way. PITA
