Oh, sorry, I nearly nodded off there - that noise is almost hypnotic.
Excuse my ignorance, but it looks like the tool is cutting on the back stroke - I'd have expected the forward one to be the one to produce the lovely curly swarf we sometimes see.
No its cutting on the forward stroke, check where the pile of chips are
Im no expert on shapers I just go with what works for me

yep that is a shear tool, I borrowed that work holding idea of a mate think he saw it on net

I only asked because shear tools are usually used for the final 1.5 thou finish, give a glass like finish, delicate long curly chips that come off in ringlets, known by old school chaps as 'Shirley Temples'
